Gearheads are a special breed of people that have developed their own unique language including terms such as 'fuel injection,' 'catalytic converter,' and 'high viscosity oil,' for example.

If you're a bonafied gearhead, you might as well learn how to make money while thinking about exhaust pipes all day. Why not become an auto mechanic? If you've ever owned a car and needed to take it in for servicing, you know that auto mechanics aren't doing too badly for themselves. I never leave the fix-it shop without having to drop a couple hundred bucks on something, and most of that money goes towards paying labor costs.

These days, learning how to fix a car from your dad will generally not land you a decent job at a garage. Many auto mechanics have to be certified to work on certain types of cars, especially if they work in the service department of an auto dealership. Also, a lot of the automobile diagnostic equipment used today is computerized, and is constantly being updated by manufacturers. Because being an auto mechanic in today's world is more complex than in history, many would-be mechanics go to auto mechanic school. Some auto mechanic schools are located in 2-year community colleges, and others are run independently or by auto manufacturers.
